Pamela Martin’s words reflect the paradox of Christ’s kingly position and His earthly suffering.  These themes are further developed as we proclaim that our sin caused His suffering on the cross and yet that very suffering allows Him to heal our own brokenness.  Mr. Courtney’s haunting melody creates a mood of contemplation and penitence, making this fitting for the Lenten season, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
